A community of experimental cottages in Ano Ypsilou, Andros island, Greece. All cottages are plugged into the existing water-sharing network of canals running through the village, and linked by a sunken, shaded path. The proposed program is mix-use, combining dwellings with agribusiness and hospitality. The main requirement of the studio was to base key decisions on a range of simulations, resulting in a mainly data-driven design. Following this, the scheme was organised around a 'vertical courtyard', optimized to use prevailing winds for natural evaporative cooling.
