A visitor center, museum and cultural hub in Bamiyan valley, Afghanistan. The competition was co-organised by UNESCO, and sought to "enforce culture as a foundational component to Afghan national identity and peace-building". Our proposal re-creates a previously leveled hill facing the cliffs. We then extrude viewing volumes towards the valley. The gesture is intended as an 'inverse excavation' which creates a lively interior courtyard while simultaneously reaching out, both literally and figuratively.
Open international competition / Collaboration with: Dimitris Sagonas / Iosif Dacoronias / Heracles Papatheodorou
